Gospel – Matthew 6:7-15

Dear Dad

Church of Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem

When life gets tough and the world seems to be spinning out of control, what prayer do you turn to for support, guidance or comfort?  The Rosary?  Hail Mary?  The Our Father, as we see in today’s Gospel?

For me, it’s a prayer you will find at the beginning of each hour of the Divine Office.

God, come to my assistance!  O Lord, make haste to help me!

Whether it’s getting up in the morning, dealing with a family crisis, prepping for a homily, or just a simple personal reminder of how much I (we all) need Our Father’s love and forgiveness, that simple little prayer is a reminder of God’s constant presence in my life and my comfort in times of doubt, hardship and fear.

Jesus makes it clear in today’s Gospel – prayer is vital for our growth and spiritual life.  We need to talk to Our Father on a regular basis – share our day, our troubles and our successes, our hopes and our failures!  Seek His guidance and grace!  Pray for His assistance and His love!
